SQ4S was approached by Lidl GB to design two independent Solar PV arrays to be placed on the flat roof of Deer Park Primary School, which was to be constructed on top of their new store being built in Twickenham. One system is to supply the school and the other is the Lidl Food store. The system had to be designed to meet annual generation targets, and not be visible from street level, to meet planning conditions. The arrays needed to be installed around the other rooftop plant that was due to be installed, and to avoid the ballasted edge protection system that was to be utilised. Both systems were to have display screens to show how much the system was generating.
SQ4S provided two PV System designs to meet Lidl’s generation requirements utilising Van der Valk’s ballasted Solar PV mounting system. We opted for JA 340W Mono panels with Huawei Inverters. We liaised with Kier Construction and J B Hopkins to agree on the location of both arrays and the inverter locations so we didn’t clash with other roof-mounted plants.
SQ4S’s fully qualified installation team installed and commissioned a 34kWp array for the store and a 24kWp system for the school cabled to two roof-mounted inverters. Due to other obstacles on the roof, the DC cabling and associated containment needed to be carefully planned and installed. Liaising with Kier Construction and H P Hopkins on site was vital, to utilise crane time as well as making some last-minute alterations to the design to overcome unexpected obstacles on the roof that were not shown on the plans.
